Arcsoft’s PhotoImpression is a photo, video and music editing package that simplifies the process of correcting, organising and producing photos and videos. It is easy to download and install. You can create a media library at the start by scanning selected or all folders and images can be accessed from a folder, camera, and phone.
Navigation is straightforward and there are lots of good features to assist you in editing, such as batch processing to resize, rotate, convert and rename groups of files; application of colour effects, tinting, toning, painting, retouching and adding text, clipart, frame. You can also add tags, and use these for subsequent searches and using a single image can search for similar images.
If you get stuck there is help text and an online forum to submit your queries to, but generally we found that the product is easy to use. There are some inconsistencies: RAW files are supported but GIF and JPEG do not get the same treatment.
For quick photo editing there is an Easy Fix Wizard which takes you through an editing route including straightening, cropping, red-eye removal, brightness and contrast, sharpening, colour adjustment and selecting the subject for standing out.
Pros: Wizardry and simplicity.
Cons: Missing some useful editing facilities, such as support for gradients and layers, transparency.
Conclusion: If you require standard editing facilities PhotoImpression can help you by simplifying and speeding up the process. It is great for creating picture books, calendars, greeting cards, and slideshows but if you need fewer supports and are happy with a more technical approach you may discover the restrictions of this product.
